This webcam, in brief
How the camera works and what to expect from the images.
What can I see on the Cima Piazzi webcam?
The webcam is at Pian della Mota, at 1,995 m, at the top station of the gondola that comes up from Isolaccia. It looks north across Valdidentro: on the left the Cime di Plator, on the right Monte delle Scale and, between them, the hairpin road climbing to the Torri di Fraele. The summit of Cima Piazzi is not in the picture.
Is the image live? How often does it update?
When the camera is running, the image updates automatically every few minutes during daylight hours. The time of the latest snapshot is shown on the page, and the timelapse plays back the hours before.
Where is the Cima Piazzi gondola and how do I get there?
The gondola starts in Isolaccia, the main village of Valdidentro, in upper Valtellina, on the road from Bormio up to the Foscagno Pass, and arrives at Pian della Mota, at 1,995 m. The summit of Cima Piazzi, about 3,440 m, is much higher and further south: the lifts do not go there.
Discover Cima Piazzi
Pian della Mota is a shelf at almost two thousand metres on the north-facing side of Valdidentro, among the conifer woods above Isolaccia. The eight-seater gondola ends here, after gaining more than 600 metres of height in about a kilometre and a half. Around the station are the beginners' area, with two magic carpets, and a mountain restaurant.
The ski area is called Cima Piazzi-San Colombano and has two sides linked by pistes: the Valdidentro side and the Oga side, in the municipality of Valdisotto. In all there are 25 kilometres of runs, served by one gondola, three chairlifts, three drag lifts and two magic carpets; the highest point is at Masucco, at about 2,360 metres. From Pian della Mota the Doss Alt piste takes you back to Isolaccia in 3.2 kilometres.
In summer the gondola takes you to the trails: one goes down to Rasin in 9.7 kilometres, passing the Oga fort. There is also an alpine coaster, with a 600-metre run. In every season your eye goes to the other side of the valley, where the hairpins climb to the Torri di Fraele, two towers built in 1391.
