This webcam, in brief

How the camera works and what to expect from the images.

What can I see on the Oga webcam?

The webcam is above Oga, at 1,530 m, and looks east: Bormio and its basin below, Valfurva in the background and, on the right, the slope with Bormio's ski pistes. It is useful for seeing how far down the snow reaches and what the weather is like over the whole basin.

Is the image live? How often does it update?

When the camera is running, the image updates automatically every few minutes during daylight hours. The time of the latest snapshot is shown on the page, and the timelapse plays back the hours before.

Where is Oga and how do I get there?

Oga is a hamlet of Valdisotto, in upper Valtellina, at about 1,500 m, on the slope overlooking the Bormio basin. By car it is a few minutes' drive up provincial road 28, which leaves the SS 38 at Santa Lucia, on the edge of Bormio.

Discover Oga

Oga lies at about 1,500 metres on the side of the Bormio basin, among meadows and conifer woods: from here you look down on the town, with Valfurva opening up behind it. It is a hamlet of Valdisotto, and its church, dedicated to Saints Lawrence and Columbanus, has been a parish since 1632.

Above the village, on the Dossaccio (1,740 m), stands Forte Venini, known to everyone as the Oga fort. It was built between 1908 and 1912 to defend the passes of the upper valley: large blocks of stone covered by a thick layer of concrete and, on the roof, four armoured steel domes for the guns. It has borne the name of Captain Venini since 1938; the army left it in 1958. Today it is open to visitors.

Between the Dossaccio and the slopes of Monte Masucco lies the Paluaccio, a peat bog protected since 1983: over 30 hectares, more than nine metres of peat built up over some 13,000 years and, among the sphagnum moss, the sundew, a carnivorous plant. For the patron saint's feast of San Lorenzo, great bonfires are lit on the Tadè terrace above the village. In winter a four-seater chairlift runs from Le Motte di Oga up to the Dossaccio, in the Cima Piazzi-San Colombano ski area. Did you know?

The road up to Oga was built to carry the stone, gravel and sand for the fort, erected between 1908 and 1912 on the Dossaccio: before that there was only a very steep mule track.
