This webcam, in brief

How the camera works and what to expect from the images.

What can you see from the Soglio webcam?

The village of Soglio at 1,090 metres in Val Bregaglia, on the Swiss side of the border, facing the mountains of the Sciora and the Badile. Use it for snow, light and visibility over Bregaglia.

Why is Soglio "the threshold of paradise"?

Because of the description by the painter Giovanni Segantini, who in the autumn of 1896 began here the first panel of the Alpine Triptych. The village sits on a south-facing terrace, opposite the granite walls of Val Bondasca.

Is there snow in Soglio now?

Reading of 8 October 2026 at 14:06 (local time): it is not snowing and no snow is forecast for the next 24 hours. Snow on the ground is not measured: the picture shows it. At 1,090 metres snow usually arrives between December and February. The webcam shows it in real time.

What is there to see in Soglio?

Palazzo Salis, built in 1630 for Battista von Salis and a hotel since 1876, with its garden; the narrow stone lanes; the chestnut groves below the village, crossed by the path to Castasegna.

How do you get to Soglio?

From Chiavenna, beyond the border at Castasegna, by a road that climbs from the floor of Val Bregaglia; by bus on the Swiss lines from Chiavenna or St. Moritz, changing at Promontogno. You need an identity document.

Discover Soglio

Soglio appears in the records in 1186 and owes its importance to the Salis family, who arrived in the thirteenth century as officials of the bishop. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the family built its palazzi here, from the Casa di Mezzo of 1696 to the Casa Antonio of 1763–66. The village, fewer than 200 inhabitants at an altitude of about 1,090 metres, has been part of the municipality of Bregaglia since 2010.

Soglio stands apart from the old transit route on the valley floor: until about 1875 it was reached by a mule track, then the carriage road arrived. In 1552 the village went over to the Reformation. In 2015 it was the first to be voted "most beautiful village in Switzerland", and in the same year Bregaglia received the Wakker Prize from the Swiss Heritage Society. Soglio is the end of the second of the three stages of the Via Bregaglia, the trail that runs down from Maloja to Chiavenna.

Between Soglio and Castasegna grows one of the largest cultivated chestnut groves in Europe: about 1,200 trees on 50 hectares, with the drying huts scattered through the wood. The harvest is celebrated with the Chestnut Festival, usually between late September and October: the programme includes visits to the huts where the chestnuts are dried.
