Discover Valfurva

Valfurva is the valley of the Frodolfo river: it starts at Bormio, passes through San Nicolò and ends at Santa Caterina, where the road becomes the Gavia Pass road (2,621 m), usually open from June to October. The valley lies in the Stelvio National Park, established in 1935, and from Forni, above Santa Caterina, you climb to the Forni Glacier, the largest valley glacier in the Italian Alps.

Santa Caterina is the home village of Deborah Compagnoni, winner of three Olympic golds; the piste that bears her name, 3,699 metres long, was built for the 2005 World Championships, when the valley hosted the women's races and Bormio the men's. In 1985 too the World Championships had been split between the two resorts. The season here ends late: the basin is cold and the snow holds. See the other Valtellina webcams or the map.
