Where is Zuoz and how do I get there?
Zuoz is in the Upper Engadin, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, at 1,716 m, between La Punt and S-chanf. It has a Rhaetian Railway station on the Engadin line. By car you arrive from St. Moritz and Samedan or from the Lower Engadin; in summer also over the Albula Pass.
Discover Zuoz
Zuoz first appears in the records around 840 as Zuzes, and for centuries it was the chief village of the Upper Engadin. In 1244 the Bishop of Chur appointed Andreas Planta of Zuoz chancellor of the valley, and his family stayed in power until 1798. The village sits at 1,716 metres, on the slope of Munt Albanas.
In 1499, during the Swabian War, it was the villagers themselves who set fire to the place, by then almost a small town, to force the enemy to retreat. Zuoz was rebuilt and in 1554 adopted the Reformation. The church of San Luzi was given a new late Gothic choir in 1507: it holds two stained-glass windows by Augusto Giacometti, from 1929 and 1933.
The camera looks at the village from about 1,750 metres, next to the ski lift: the Zuoz ski area runs from 1,720 to 2,465 metres, towards Pizzet and Albanas, with five lifts and about 15 kilometres of pistes. Since 1913 Zuoz has been on the Bever–Scuol railway line, and in March the Engadin Skimarathon passes through, shortly before the finish at S-chanf. In winter the picture shows at once whether the snow has reached the houses. Explore the other Engadin webcams, the views of La Punt and Samedan or the map.

Zuoz has been home since 1904 to the Lyceum Alpinum, a boarding school founded by a group of Engadin locals: it started with 22 pupils and today has about 340, from over 45 countries.
