This webcam, in brief

How the camera works and what to expect from the images.

What can you see from the Stelvio pistes webcam?

The glacier pistes above the Stelvio Pass, between 2,758 and 3,450 metres, and the lifts that serve them. It is the camera to watch for summer skiing and for snow up high.

When can you ski on the Stelvio?

In summer: the glacier ski area is usually open from late May to early November, that is, when the pass road is passable. In winter the pass is closed and the lifts are not running.

Who trains on the Stelvio glacier?

The Italian national alpine ski team and racing teams from other countries: the Stelvio is one of the main summer training centres.

Is there snow on the Stelvio glacier now?

Reading of 8 October 2026 at 14:06 (local time): the weather at the camera's altitude says it is snowing. Snow on the ground is not measured: the picture shows it. In the opening season usually yes, but the amount changes from year to year and the quality with the time of day. Look at the webcam early in the morning: that is when the snow is firmest.

Is the image live? How often does it update?

When the camera is running, the image updates automatically every few minutes during daylight hours. At this altitude wind and fog can cover the lens; the time of the latest snapshot is always shown on the page.

Discover Stelvio Pass

Above the Stelvio Pass, skiing begins where the road ends. From the car park at the pass, at 2,758 metres, one cable car climbs to the Trincerone, at about 3,000 metres, and a second reaches the Livrio hut, at 3,174. Higher up, four drag lifts, Geister 1, Geister 2, Payer and Cristallo, serve the glacier pistes up towards 3,450 metres.

Not every piste is for everyone: the two Geister runs are usually reserved for racing teams in training and are reached from the Livrio by snowcat. There is also a cross-country loop on the glacier.

The Stelvio is one of the last summer ski areas in the Alps, and the Livrio glacier is retreating: in recent years closures for lack of snow and open crevasses have become more frequent. That is why the image matters more than the calendar: it shows whether the pistes are white or the ice is showing through.

Between 1915 and 1918 the front line of the First World War ran through here: in June 1915 the Austrians occupied Monte Scorluzzo, 3,094 metres, which commands the pass from the south-west. Since 1935 the area has been part of the Stelvio National Park. See also the pass itself, the Stelvio Pass webcams, Trafoi, the Valtellina webcams or the map.

Summer skiing here began in the early 1930s, when the Bergamo section of the Italian Alpine Club built the Livrio hut, at 3,174 metres, for the first courses. The Pirovano school, the 'University of Skiing', arrived in the 1950s.
