Val Müstair · 2 webcams · from 1,780 to 2,400 m

Müstair's webcams show Val Müstair from two points: the valley floor with its villages, seen from the Umbrail road, and the snow up high towards the Ofen Pass (Ofenpass), seen from Minschuns. Two cameras for the Swiss valley between the Stelvio and the Engadin.

Discover Müstair

Müstair is the easternmost village in Switzerland, at over 1,200 metres, at the bottom of Val Müstair: just beyond it is the border with South Tyrol. Here stands the Benedictine Convent of St John, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, where nuns still live. Neither webcam is in the village. The first looks down on the valley from the Umbrail road above Santa Maria and shows whether there is snow on the valley floor. The second is at Minschuns, above Tschierv, and looks towards Piz Daint and Piz Dora: it tells you what the weather is like up high near the Ofen Pass, but it does not show the road.

The Ofen Pass, Ofenpass in German and Passo del Forno in Italian, is at 2,149 metres and links Zernez, in the Engadin, with Santa Maria and Müstair. It normally stays open all year, with short closures only during the heaviest snowfalls: if you want to know whether the Ofen Pass is open, check the Swiss road information, because the camera shows the snow on the peaks, not the carriageway. On the Zernez side the road crosses the Swiss National Park, founded in 1914 and the oldest in the Alps: 170 square kilometres and 100 kilometres of marked paths.

The Umbrail road also starts from Santa Maria: it climbs to 2,501 metres, the highest road pass in Switzerland, and comes out on the Stelvio road just below the top. It is usually closed from November to May and reopens together with the Stelvio. From Italy you can enter the valley all year from Val Venosta, crossing the border at Tubre. The valley is that of the Rom, which flows down towards the Adige, and since 2009 its six villages have formed a single municipality. Choose the Müstair webcam for the valley floor and the Ofen Pass webcam for the snow up high, or see the whole of Val Müstair and neighbouring Val Venosta.

About Müstair

Which webcams are there in Müstair?

Two, and neither is in the village. The first looks down on the valley floor and the villages of Val Müstair from the Umbrail road above Santa Maria; the second is at Minschuns, above Tschierv, and shows the snow up high towards Piz Daint and Piz Dora, near the Ofen Pass.

Is there snow in Val Müstair?

The Müstair webcam shows whether there is snow on the valley floor, the Ofen Pass webcam the snow up high at Minschuns. In Müstair, at over 1,200 metres, there is usually snow in the village from December to March; on the Ofen Pass, at 2,149 metres, from November to May.

How do you get to Val Müstair in winter?

From Italy through Val Venosta, crossing the border at Tubre, all year. From the Engadin over the Ofen Pass (2,149 m), between Zernez and Santa Maria, which is usually open all year with short closures only during the heaviest snowfalls. The webcam shows the snow on the peaks, not the carriageway: to find out whether the pass is open, check the Swiss road information.

When does the Umbrail Pass open?

The Umbrail (2,501 m), which climbs from Santa Maria and is the highest road pass in Switzerland, is closed in winter: usually from November to May, and it reopens together with the Stelvio. Road conditions in Graubünden are published by the canton's civil engineering office.
