Webcams in Val Camonica
The Val Camonica webcam looks at Ponte di Legno, at 1,257 metres, at the head of the valley: snow and weather at the foot of the Tonale and Gavia passes. It is the site's only camera in the valley, where the roads divide towards Trentino and the Valtellina.
Places
The valley
Val Camonica is almost 100 kilometres long: it climbs from Lake Iseo to the Tonale and Gavia passes, nearly all of it in the province of Brescia, along the course of the river Oglio. It is known for its rock drawings, which in 1979 became Italy's first UNESCO World Heritage Site: the best-known park is Naquane, at Capo di Ponte. The upper valley lies between two protected areas, the Stelvio National Park towards the Gavia and the Adamello Park on the Tonale side. Ponte di Legno is the last village before the passes.
Getting there
- By car
- Leave the A4 motorway at Brescia Ovest or Ospitaletto, then follow the SS 510 along Lake Iseo and the SS 42 Tonale road, through Edolo, to Ponte di Legno: about 118 kilometres from Brescia and 166 from Milan. From Trentino you come from the A22 through Val di Non and Val di Sole, over the Tonale.
- By train
- The Brescia-Iseo-Edolo railway runs up the valley for 103 kilometres to Edolo: from there you continue by bus. From Trentino the nearest station is Malé, with buses to the Tonale. Check the timetables before you leave.
- Alpine passes
- Tonale (1,883 m), towards Val di Sole: open all year, with short closures possible during the heaviest snowfalls. Gavia (2,621 m), towards Santa Caterina Valfurva and Bormio: closed in winter, usually open from June to mid-October, in some years from late May. Towards the Valtellina: Aprica (1,181 m), from Edolo, open all year; Mortirolo (1,852 m), from Monno, closed in winter. The Alpine pass webcams show the road, they do not certify that it is open: always check with ANAS or the Province.
When to go
In winter people come for the snow: on the Presena glacier, above the Tonale, skiing usually runs from the first snowfalls in November to mid-May. In June the Gavia usually reopens, and with it the link to Valfurva and Bormio. In mid-October the Gavia closes again: the webcam shows whether the first snow has reached the village or stopped on the slopes.

Not on this site. The nearest camera is the one in Ponte di Legno, about ten kilometres before the pass: it shows whether it is snowing and how far down the slopes the snow reaches.
Is the Gavia Pass open?
