This webcam, in brief

How the camera works and what to expect from the images.

What can you see from the Müstair webcam?

Val Müstair seen from above, from the Umbrail road above Santa Maria: the valley floor and the villages of the Swiss valley that runs down towards South Tyrol. Use it for snow and weather in the valley between the Stelvio and the Engadin.

What is the convent of Müstair?

A Benedictine convent founded around 780, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. The church holds the largest and best-preserved cycle of early medieval wall paintings, painted around the year 800, and the convent has been lived in without interruption since its foundation.

Is there snow in Müstair now?

Reading of 9 October 2026 at 04:06 (local time): it is not snowing and no snow is forecast for the next 24 hours. Snow on the ground is not measured: the picture shows it. In Müstair, at over 1,200 metres, there is usually snow in the village from December to March; on the Ofen Pass, at 2,149 metres, for much longer. The webcam shows the valley floor from above, with the time of the snapshot.

How do you get to Müstair?

From Italy by way of Val Venosta, crossing the border at Tubre/Taufers from Malles or Glorenza, all year round. From the Engadin over the Ofen Pass from Zernez, open all year. In summer also from Bormio, over the Stelvio and Umbrail.

Is Müstair in Italy or Switzerland?

In Switzerland, in the Canton of Graubünden: it is the last village in Val Müstair before the Italian border. Romansh and German are spoken; just over the border is Tubre, in South Tyrol.

The Umbrail road starts in Santa Maria, at 1,375 metres, and in 13.4 kilometres climbs 1,126 metres to the pass, at 2,501. The camera stands along this climb, at about 1,780 metres, and looks down: Val Müstair descends from the Ofen Pass to Müstair, the lowest village, and the border with South Tyrol; in all, down to Val Venosta, it is about 25 kilometres long.

The valley has six villages: Tschierv, Fuldera, Lü, Valchava, Santa Maria and Müstair, the largest. Since 1 January 2009 they have formed a single municipality, Val Müstair, with about 1,400 inhabitants. The language is Jauer, the local variety of Romansh. Müstair appears in the records in the early 9th century as monasterium Tuberis and, unlike the neighbouring villages, has remained Catholic. In 1499, before the Battle of Calven, it was the mustering point for the Graubünden troops; afterwards the Austrians destroyed it.

The Umbrail was once called the Wormser Joch, after the old German name for Bormio: it was an important mule track for Bormio's trade with the north. The road dates from 1901 and has been fully paved only since 2015. Since 2010 the Swiss part of the valley has been a biosphere reserve, with the Swiss National Park as its core zone. The picture shows whether there is snow on the valley floor. Explore the Val Müstair webcams, the Müstair webcams, the Stelvio Pass, Malles in Val Venosta or the map.
