Discover Livigno

Livigno is a valley that for centuries was cut off in winter: that is why it was granted its duty-free status, recognised by Napoleon in 1805 and kept to this day. From Italy the only way in is over the Foscagno Pass (2,291 m), open all year with snow chains on board, and the Foscagno and Eira webcams tell you whether the road is clear before you even look at those in the village.

Livigno is nicknamed Little Tibet: snow in the village usually stays from late November to April. The ski area is split between Mottolino, to the east, and Carosello 3000 with Costaccia, to the west. In February 2026 the Livigno Snow Park, on Mottolino, and the Livigno Aerials & Moguls Park, at Carosello 3000, hosted the Olympic snowboarding and freestyle skiing events of Milano Cortina.

In summer the Forcola (2,315 m) reopens towards Poschiavo and Switzerland, usually from June to late November, and Livigno becomes a base for cycling: Foscagno, Eira, Forcola and Bernina are all within riding distance. See the other Valtellina webcams or the map.

About Livigno

Which webcams are there in Livigno?

Two: Via Plan, the pedestrian shopping street in the centre of the village, and the basin, between the lake to the north and the slopes of Mottolino and Carosello 3000. The first shows the snow between the houses and the people out and about, the second the snow and the light on the slopes.

When is there snow in Livigno?

In the village, at 1,816 metres, snow usually stays from late November to April: Livigno is one of the coldest resorts in the Italian Alps. The Via Plan webcam shows whether the snow has reached the houses, the basin webcam whether it has covered the slopes.

Is the road to Livigno open in winter?

From Italy, yes: the Foscagno Pass (2,291 m) and the Eira Pass (2,208 m), on the state road managed by ANAS, are open all year, with winter tyres or snow chains on board and possible temporary closures during the heaviest snowfalls. The Forcola di Livigno (2,315 m), towards Poschiavo, is closed in winter: it is usually open from the first week of June to the last Friday of November, following the calendar set by the Canton of Graubünden. While it is closed, the Munt la Schera tunnel remains the way to Switzerland.

How high is Livigno?

The centre is at 1,816 metres, on the floor of the basin: Livigno is the highest, largest and northernmost municipality in Lombardy. The pistes reach about 2,800 metres.
