What can I see on the Madesimo webcam?
The webcam is on the Andossi, at 1,730 m, and turns through 360 degrees: in the foreground a stone roof and the meadows of the plateau with their huts, opposite the village of Madesimo with the pistes running down through the forest, below Pizzo Groppera (2,948 m). It is useful for checking snow and weather before you drive up.
Is the image live? How often does it update?
When the camera is running, the image updates automatically every few minutes during daylight hours. The time of the latest snapshot is shown on the page, and the timelapse plays back the hours before.

Discover Madesimo
The Andossi are the ridge of pastures that separates the Madesimo basin from the main furrow of Valle Spluga: a plateau that rises to about 2,000 metres, dotted with stone huts. The camera stands at its lower edge, at 1,730 metres, and from there looks at the village on the other side of the little valley, 180 metres below.
Until 1983 the municipality was not called Madesimo but Isolato, after the hamlet of Isola, and the town hall is still in Pianazzo, where the Scalcoggia stream drops in a waterfall more than 150 metres high. Between the late 19th century and the early 20th the poet Giosuè Carducci spent more than one summer here, and helped to make the village's mineral waters known.
In winter Madesimo is the ski resort of the Valchiavenna: the area climbs from the village, at 1,550 metres, towards Pizzo Groppera, at 2,948, from which the Canalone, its best-known off-piste run, descends. The season usually runs from late November to April, and the picture from the Andossi shows how far the snow covers the meadows. In summer people walk across the plateau among the alpine pastures, towards the Andossi lake and Montespluga. From Pizzo Groppera, the peak above Madesimo, Radio 24 began broadcasting in November 1979: a private Swiss station that reached Zurich from Italy, about 130 km away, at a time when Swiss law made no provision for private radio.
