This webcam, in brief

How the camera works and what to expect from the images.

What can I see on the Lenno webcam?

The webcam is in a garden on the shore at Lenno, at 209 m, and looks east: in the foreground the palm trees and a small domed pavilion, then the open lake as far as Bellagio, on the opposite shore, and the Grigne in the distance. On the right the wooded slope of the Larian Triangle drops into the water. Villa del Balbianello is on the headland south of the village and is not in the frame.

Is the image live? How often does it update?

When the camera is running, the image updates automatically every few minutes during daylight hours. The time of the latest snapshot is shown on the page, and the timelapse plays back the hours before.

Where is Lenno and how do I get there?

Lenno is on the western shore of Lake Como, in the province of Como, in the municipality of Tremezzina, about 28 km from Como along the SS 340 Regina road. You arrive by car, by bus from Como or by boat, which calls at the village; there is no railway on this shore.

Discover Lenno

Lenno lies at the head of an inlet on the western shore, between the Lavedo headland and the Portezza point: in the eighteenth century Cardinal Durini called it the “gulf of Venus”. The village, about 1,800 inhabitants, has been part of the municipality of Tremezzina since 2014.

On the Via Regina stands the church of Santo Stefano, built over an early Christian building, with an eleventh-century crypt; next to it, the baptistery has kept its Romanesque appearance from the end of the same century. Not far away, the abbey of Acquafredda was founded between 1142 and 1143 by Cistercian monks from Morimondo.

On the tip of the Lavedo stands Villa del Balbianello. At the end of the eighteenth century Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini turned a Franciscan convent into a country retreat, with a loggia that looks at the lake on two sides: the Tremezzina on one, the basin of Isola Comacina on the other. Today it belongs to the FAI. From Lenno you reach it on foot, in about one kilometre, or by boat from the lido. Scenes from “Star Wars: Episode II” and “Casino Royale” were shot in its gardens.

The camera looks the other way, towards the open lake: if the Grigne stand out sharply, the day is clear. See also Tremezzo, Sala Comacina with Isola Comacina, the other Lake Como webcams or the map.

Villa del Balbianello, on the headland at Lenno, was the home of the explorer Guido Monzino, who bought it in 1974 and left it to the FAI in 1988: the sledge from his 1971 expedition to the North Pole is on display there.
