How the camera works and what to expect from the images.
What can you see from the Le Prese webcam?
Le Prese, the village at the northern end of Lake Poschiavo, at 965 metres, with the Bernina railway running through it. Use it for the weather on the lake and in the middle of the valley.
Why was Le Prese a spa resort?
Because of a sulphur spring on the lakeshore: in 1849 the concession was bought by Rodolfo Conzetti and in 1857 the Albergo Bagni opened, with 20 beds, a bakery and stables. It is today's Hotel Le Prese.
Does the Red Train stop at Le Prese?
Yes: Le Prese station, on the Bernina line, has been open since 1 July 1908. The train continues along the lakeshore to Miralago and Brusio.
What is the weather like in Le Prese now?
The webcam shows it, with the time of the snapshot. At 965 metres snow in winter is normal.
How do you get to Le Prese?
By train on the Rhaetian Railway from Tirano or St. Moritz, or by car along the Bernina road, a few kilometres south of Poschiavo.

In Le Prese the Bernina train runs down the middle of the road: in the village the single track is laid in the carriageway and the stop is a kerbside platform along the main street. The hamlet, about 300 inhabitants at 965 metres, lies where the Poschiavino enters the lake, four kilometres south of the town of Poschiavo.
The name comes from the medieval Latin prehensae: uncultivated plots that the Church or the municipality granted to private individuals to clear and farm. Its fortune came with the sulphur water on the shore. The bathing establishment, already enlarged in 1861, stayed in business until 1914 and presented itself as an acclimatisation station between northern Italy and the health resorts of the Engadin. For English guests there was even an Anglican chapel.
Today medicinal herbs and flowers are grown around the village, and there is a landing stage for boats on the lake; the parish of San Francesco has existed since 1874. For the weather, Le Prese is the middle step of the valley: 185 metres higher than Brusio, some fifty lower than the town.
